Once upon a time,
in a land far far away lived a tomboy princess who grew up playing in mud and wearing a softball glove every spring. A shy unsure child who spent more time with her cousins then she did with her friends. A girl who would tell everyone that "One day when I get older I'm gonna shoot me a deer." That was her dream. A girl who would rather live her life outdoors then play with barbies. She was a girl who wanted to play with the boys instead of watching those pointless movies about princesses who lived in giant castles. A girl would would rather swing a softball bat then read a book. A young girl who had big dreams. She dreamt about one day becoming a teacher and would play school every free minute she could. She dreamt of one day being able to travel to the one place where dreams come true. The place where all of her friends would talk about in her preschool. This place was a place where castles and magic where around every corner. She couldn't wait for this dream to come true. Eagerly as the years passed this dream began to happen every night as she lie her head down to rest. When would this little girl get her dream? She seemed like it would never happen but when she least expected it this dream came true. This is tomboy princess was me... |
Mom: "Kaitlyn, we need to pack your bags."

Airplane
Take off, Ears popping, Excitement building, Disney. First trip, Can't wait. Characters, Rides, Cinderella's castle, Mickey Mouse. Get me off this plane! |
Trip of My DreamsMy first trip to Disney World was the trip of my dreams. Every single expectation that I had, was met beginning with loading the airplane. Nervous about riding for the first time my Mommom stroked my back and told me that if I chewed gum everything would be okay. When my ears popped I cried like a little baby. Stepping foot off of the plane and arriving at Dixie Landings was a blur. The only thing that I remember is seeing the “Welcome to Disney World” sign for the first time. It was something that I had always dreamt of seeing. Walking down Main Street and seeing the castle in the distance proved that this wasn’t really a dream at all. I had finally arrived to the place that I had always dreamt of going. Seeing the princesses for the first time was like getting the present you really wanted on Christmas morning. I got all jittery and couldn’t stand still. The characters didn’t frighten me until I saw the Genie. My mom says, “You hide under that table like a little baby. You were shaking so bad we thought you were going to have a seizure.” Of course I don’t remember that moment in time. The last day had come and I knew it was time to go back to the reality of going to preschool on Monday morning and only seeing Disney World in my dreams, well until the next trip anyway. |
(A week before the trip)
Mom: "You need to make a list of everything that you need for the trip." Me: "Mom I have a week until I leave it is okay." Mom: "I am not going to be there with you to make sure you have everything." Me: "I know Mom I will be fine, believe me." ( Day of the trip) Mom: "I can't believe you are actually going on your senior trip today." Me: "Mom stop crying." Mom: "Be careful, enjoy yourself, call me everyday, are you sure you have everything?" Me: "I will be fine. There are over 100 of us going. If I forgot something I am sure my roommates will have it. I will see you on Saturday." Mom: "Love you." |

Dreamer
Laying in my comfy bed, dreaming about, Epcot at 4 am, little kids watching wishes at Magic Kingdom, looking down main street towards the castle, the Florida sunshine, Disney World. When will I see you? |
Disney with Sydney The idea of spending a four day trip at Disney with my best friend/sister/cousin, Syd, was enough for me to decide to go on this trip. What I didn't expect was how hard it was going to be to get up at 3 A.M. and board a bus to the half marathon. How cold it was going to be at that time of the day in Florida. I imagined it would of been chilly but I never dreamed it would have been as cold as it was. It was all worth it though. My cousin had been through a lot to get to that moment of crossing the finish line at the end of the race. Just a little over a month and a half before the race she was hit by a car while training for the race. An angel was looking down on her and she didn't have any serious injuries. That didn’t stop her. The day after she told me how she was determined to be ready for the race, she couldn’t even walk. I told her, “Just worry about getting better, don’t push yourself.” She didn’t listen. Syd was a trooper through that traumatic and being there to see her cross the finish line was a great experience. Even though she was sore and her muscles hurt she pushed through it. Disney gave her that push. I was so proud of her and I couldn't imagine not being there to see it. While Disney has driven me to tears from their fireworks shows, seeing Syd cross the finish line drew me to more tears. The experience brought us even closer then we already were.

Running Toward Her Dream Thirteen miles of feet beating across the pavement, Seeing the finish line in the distance, Chasing the dream of a medal. Syd races through the park waiting for the moment, When she would get the medal that she dreamt of. Sweat is running down her head, As I stand bundled up, frozen to the bone. When did the place where dreams come true, turn into Antarctica. I should of grabbed my North Face, I should of grabbed my gloves, but that 2:30 am wake up call came too soon. |
